Why a purer home feels calmer
Your home is the environment your nervous system reads all day. Every scent, every surface, every breath is information. A calmer home isn't only how it looks. It's how little it asks of your body.
Follow the orb for a few rounds. Slow, even breathing like this gently nudges the body from “fight or flight” toward “rest and digest.”
Scent reaches the brain first
Smell is the only sense wired straight into the limbic system, the brain's emotion and memory centre, with no filter in between. It's why a scent can settle you, or set you on edge, before you've consciously registered it. This is why we choose scent to be considered, not loud.
The air indoors is the air you breathe most
Indoor air is often 2–5× more polluted than the air outside, and we spend the vast majority of our lives in it. Conventional sprays and synthetic fragrance add volatile compounds (VOCs) to the rooms you rest in. Lower-tox formulas mean less for your lungs and nervous system to work through.
“Fragrance” can hide a great deal
A single “fragrance” or “parfum” line on a label can stand in for dozens of undisclosed ingredients. Full disclosure means your body isn't quietly processing mystery every time you clean, spray or refresh a room. What you can name, you can trust.
Calm is a physical state, not just a mood
A space that doesn't overwhelm the senses helps the body stay in its parasympathetic “rest and digest” state rather than low-grade alert. Lighter scent, cleaner air and less chemical noise are fewer small stressors for your system to hold, and that adds up over a day, a week, a life lived at home.
That's the whole idea behind The Pure Standard: lower what your home asks of your body (the scent it breathes out, the air it holds, the residue it leaves) and let calm become the default, not the effort.

How we score it
Every product carries a score out of five in four categories. Not everything reaches a five, and that's by design. A score isn't a wellness rating. It's a plain account of what's actually in the bottle, so you can decide what's right for your home.

Not everything here is entirely non-toxic
We won't pretend it is. A small number of products carry a synthetic ingredient because nothing plant-derived performs as well yet, at a price that stays fair. We carry a range on purpose, so there's an option whether your priority is the lowest possible chemical load, everyday performance, or something in between.
