A structured cotton canvas valance that sits under the mattress and skirts the base, hiding the bed frame and anything stored beneath it. Four-sided for proper coverage, with a generous 38cm drop. Heavyweight 250gsm canvas by design, so it holds its line rather than billowing. In Cinder, the deep charcoal tone Studio Sutram use for their contrast edging.

Pure Standard
- It does the one job properly. Four-sided and 250gsm, so it covers the base all the way round and hangs straight instead of gaping at the corners. Most valances are thin, three-sided and a disappointment.
- A dark base is the practical choice. Cinder is the tone that hides the everyday marks a valance actually collects at floor level, and it grounds a pale bed rather than competing with it.
- Azo-free, non-toxic dyes. Confirmed by Studio Sutram for the canvas range. Azo dyes are the class most worth avoiding in bedding, and this is something that sits under you every night.
- Honest note on the fabric. This is cotton canvas, not the 300 thread count organic percale used for the sheets and duvet covers. It is a different, heavier cloth chosen for structure rather than softness.

Our Take
A valance is one of those pieces nobody photographs and everybody notices the absence of. This one is heavyweight 250gsm canvas and four-sided, so it actually covers the base instead of gaping at the corners, and the weight means it hangs straight rather than billowing. Cinder is the sensible call for something that lives at floor level and collects whatever the floor collects. One honest note: this is cotton canvas, not the certified organic percale the sheets are woven from, so we do not claim GOTS on it.
