- Coconut wax instead of paraffin. Paraffin is a petroleum by-product and it is what produces the black soot mark above a burning candle. Coconut wax has a higher melting point, which is why Barkly Basics can say theirs burns clean.
- The wick is the part nobody checks. Lead-core wicks are the reason candles got a bad name. This one is natural fibre with no lead or other metals, stated plainly.
- Phthalate-free fragrance. Phthalates are the usual concern in scented candles, and they are out. That said, the individual aromachemicals are not itemised, so we cannot show you the full fragrance breakdown.
- Hand poured in Melbourne. Not imported and relabelled, which is genuinely uncommon in this category.
- The jar outlives the candle. Melt out the last of the wax and it is a perfectly good glass vessel for herbs, brushes or bits.

How to Use
- Trim the wick to about 5mm. Before every burn. This is what stops the smoking and the black rim.
- On the first burn, go to the edge. Let the wax pool reach the edge of the jar so it does not tunnel. Allow 2 to 3 hours.
- To reuse the jar. Melt out the remaining wax, a hairdryer works, and wipe it clean with paper towel.
Safety
- Never leave a burning candle unattended. Not for a moment.
- Keep clear of hazards. Children, pets, curtains and draughts.
- Burn on a heat-resistant surface. And stop when about 10mm of wax remains.
