The Detail

Body Wash in Tasmanian Pepper & Lavender

A gentle, aromatic body wash that cares for skin while the botanical fragrance settles the senses. It is formulated to leave skin soft and calm, enriched with plant derived moisturisers and scented with Australian botanical oils. Tasmanian Pepper & Lavender is the calming, grounding one in the range, warmed with rosemary and cedarwood.

Key Features
  • Gentle, non drying formulation suitable for all skin types
  • 99%+ plant derived, made in Australia
  • Aloe vera, vitamin E and sunflower seed oil to soften and calm skin
  • Naturally antibacterial for a deep cleanse
  • Free from synthetic fragrance, sulphates and phthalates
  • Vegan and cruelty free
  • 500ml pump bottle
Pure Standard
  • Glucoside surfactants, not sulphates. The cleaning is done by caprylyl/capryl glucoside and coco-glucoside, which is the mildest widely available surfactant class. On something you use head to toe every day that is the ingredient decision that actually matters, and it is the reason this earns its place over a supermarket body wash at a third of the price.
  • Food grade preservatives. Glyceryl caprylate, gluconolactone and sodium benzoate, rather than parabens or phenoxyethanol. They are harder to formulate with, and they are how Bondi Wash hold a 99%+ plant derived figure without the product spoiling on the shelf.
  • 99 to 100 percent naturally derived, across the whole range. Bondi Wash are unusually strict about this and publish the number rather than gesturing at it. They also deliberately avoid raw materials with a poor production footprint such as palm oil and rosewood, and the range is greywater and septic safe.
  • Real essential oils doing the scent. Tasmanian pepper and lavender, warmed with rosemary and cedarwood, from botanical oils rather than a synthetic fragrance compound. It is the difference between a scent that settles in the shower and one that follows you around the house all morning.
  • Worth knowing before you buy. The ingredient list is fully itemised right up until the final line, which reads simply as essential oils rather than naming each one. Bondi Wash do name every oil individually on their Baby Wash, so they clearly can, and we would like the same here. If you have reacted to a particular oil before, ask us and we will chase the detail up before you order.
  • Where we would like more. A 500ml recyclable plastic bottle. Bondi Wash refuse to make soft plastic pouch refills on the grounds that they are not fully recyclable and end up in landfill, which we respect, and their refill format is a 5L bulk bottle instead. We do not currently stock the 5L.

Our Take

The grown up version of the Bondi Wash bathroom, and the scent is the reason to choose this one: Tasmanian pepper and lavender warmed with rosemary and cedarwood, which lands calming rather than sleepy. Underneath the fragrance it is a genuinely mild formula, cleaned with glucoside surfactants instead of sulphates and preserved with food grade ingredients rather than parabens. 99 percent plant derived, made in Australia, and one of the few body washes we would happily leave out on display.

Good to know

Frequently asked

What does Tasmanian Pepper and Lavender smell like?

Bondi Wash describe it as calming and grounding, warmed with rosemary and cedarwood. It is the softest and most settling of their body wash scents, and it comes entirely from real essential oils rather than a synthetic fragrance compound.

Is it gentle enough for sensitive skin?

Bondi Wash make it for everyday body cleansing and sensitive skin, and describe it as non drying and suitable for all skin types. The cleaning is done by caprylyl/capryl glucoside and coco-glucoside, which is the mildest widely available surfactant class, with aloe vera, vitamin E and sunflower seed oil to soften and calm.

What is it free from?

Synthetic fragrance, sulphates and phthalates. It is preserved with glyceryl caprylate, gluconolactone and sodium benzoate, which are food grade, rather than parabens or phenoxyethanol.

Does it contain tea tree or nut oils?

The list names sunflower seed oil and no nut oils. The final ingredient line reads simply as essential oils rather than naming each one, so we cannot confirm the blend oil by oil. Bondi Wash itemise every oil on their Baby Wash, so if a specific oil matters to you, ask us and we will chase the detail up before you order.

Is it vegan and cruelty free?

Yes to both. Bondi Wash's whole range is vegan apart from their Purifying Night Balm and Lip Balm, which contain beeswax, and they do not test on animals. The one exception they publish is their dog range, which is tested on local dogs with sensitive skin, and that does not apply here.

Is there a refill?

Not as a pouch, and that is a deliberate decision. Bondi Wash say soft plastic pouches are not fully recyclable so they will not make them. Their refill format is a 5L bulk bottle, which we do not currently stock. The 500ml bottle itself is recyclable.

Why does the colour look slightly different to last time?

Bondi Wash note that colour and appearance can vary between batches. That is a normal characteristic of naturally derived ingredients rather than a fault.

Where is it made?

Made in Australia, and the range is greywater and septic safe.

Nice smell, gentle on my skin and a little goes a long way.

This has become my favourite body wash. I have fairly sensitive skin and a lot of products leave my skin feeling tight afterwards, but this one doesn't. The lavender and Tasmanian pepper smell is also really nice, more natural than a lot of scented body washes. Will definitely repurchase.
