The Detail

Gentle everyday cleansing with unscented pure-castile soap

The Baby Unscented is the plainest thing Dr. Bronner's make, and the most useful. No added fragrance, double the olive oil, and nine ingredients total. It is a true soap rather than a detergent, concentrated two to three times more than most leading brands, so one bottle stretches a very long way across body, hands, face and most of the house.

Key Features
  • No added fragrance of any kind, made for sensitive skin. Suitable for babies when diluted.
  • Double the olive oil for a softer, more nourishing lather.
  • 18-in-1: body, hands, face, shaving, makeup brushes, all-purpose spray, pet washing and camping.
  • Two to three times more concentrated than other leading brands, so dilute it for almost every use.
  • EWG Verified, meeting the Environmental Working Group's strictest standards for health and safety.
  • Regenerative Organic Certified and Certified Fair Trade oils.
  • No synthetic preservatives, detergents, dyes or foaming agents.
  • 946ml bottle. Made in the USA.
Pure Standard
  • Nine ingredients, and you can pronounce all of them. Water, four organic oils, potassium hydroxide that is fully consumed turning those oils into soap, citric acid and vitamin E. That is the whole formula. Very few things in this shop are this short.
  • Unscented is the point, not a compromise. Most low-tox brands still reach for essential oils. This one skips fragrance entirely, which makes it the safe default for eczema, sensitivity, pregnancy and babies, and the one bottle we recommend when someone does not know what they react to.
  • EWG Verified is a genuinely hard standard. It is not a logo you buy. It means full ingredient disclosure and no substances on EWG's restricted list, which is why Low-Tox scores a 5 here.
  • Regenerative Organic Certified, not just organic. Palm kernel oil from smallholder farms in Colombia with no new deforestation, olive oil from fair trade smallholders in Palestine and Israel, plus fair trade coconut. Regenerative certification covers soil health and farmer welfare, not only the absence of pesticides.
  • It replaces about six bottles. Diluted right down it does body wash, hand soap, face wash, an all-purpose spray and the dog. Buying one 946ml concentrate instead of six single-purpose plastic bottles is the actual environmental argument, and it is why the big bottle is better value than it looks.
  • Readily biodegradable, tested properly. Dr. Bronner's have it verified under OECD Guideline 310, which is a real protocol rather than the word biodegradable on a label.
  • Where it loses a mark. The bottle is 100% post-consumer recycled plastic, which is better than most, but it is still plastic and there is no refill pouch in the range. That is the only reason Packaging is not a 5.

How to Use
  • Dilute for almost every use. This is a concentrate, and undiluted soap is the most common mistake people make with it.
  • Body: one small squirt onto wet hands or a wet cloth, then lather.
  • Face: two to three drops on wet hands.
  • Babies: dilute well before use.
  • All-purpose spray: a small amount in a spray bottle of water.
  • Keep out of eyes. If the cap clogs, poke it clear rather than squeezing. Flush eyes with water for 15 minutes if it gets in, and see a doctor if irritation persists.

Our Take

The plainest bottle Dr. Bronner's make and the most useful one in the shop. Nine ingredients, no fragrance at all, and concentrated enough that it replaces body wash, hand soap, face wash, an all-purpose spray and the dog shampoo. This is what we hand people who have no idea what their skin is reacting to. Dilute it properly and one bottle lasts an unreasonable amount of time.

Purely Organic

Good to know

Frequently asked

What can I actually use it for?

Dr. Bronner's list body, hands, face, shaving, makeup and makeup brushes, an all-purpose cleaning spray, pet washing and camping. It is a concentrate, so dilute it for nearly every one of those.

Do I need to dilute it?

Yes, for almost everything. It is two to three times more concentrated than most leading brands. Undiluted soap is the most common mistake people make with it. For body, one small squirt on wet hands is plenty. For face, two or three drops.

Is it suitable for babies and sensitive skin?

Yes. It has no added fragrance of any kind and double the olive oil for a gentler lather, and Dr. Bronner's describe it as ideal for babies when diluted. It is not tear-free, so keep it out of eyes.

Why is this one better than a normal body wash?

It is a true soap rather than a synthetic detergent, with nine ingredients and no preservatives, dyes or foaming agents. It is EWG Verified, which means full ingredient disclosure and nothing on EWG's restricted list.

Where do the ingredients come from?

Regenerative Organic Certified palm kernel oil from smallholder farms in Colombia with no new deforestation, olive oil from fair trade smallholders in Palestine and Israel, and fair trade organic coconut oil. Made in the USA.

Is it good for the environment?

It is readily biodegradable under OECD Guideline 310, and the bottle is 100% post-consumer recycled plastic. Because it is a concentrate that replaces several single-purpose products, one bottle also displaces a lot of packaging.

How big is it?

946ml, or 32 fl oz. Given the dilution rates, it lasts a very long time.
