A three-ingredient room spray: alcohol-free witch hazel, distilled water and pure essential oils, and nothing else. Ylang ylang and grapefruit make a warm, bright mist that lifts a room without the sharp chemical edge of a supermarket air freshener. Hand-poured in small batches in Australia, in 100ml amber glass.
Key Features
- Three ingredients. Alcohol-free witch hazel, distilled water and plant-based essential oils.
- Alcohol free. It will not sting the air or dry the room.
- The oils. Ylang ylang and grapefruit.
- Hand-poured. Bottled individually in Australia.
- The bottle. 100ml amber glass with a fine mist atomiser.
Pūrē Standard
- Three ingredients is genuinely the whole list. Witch hazel to disperse the oils, distilled water, and the oils themselves. No propellant, no solubiliser, no fixative, no synthetic fragrance. Very few room sprays are this short, and it is the entire reason Low-Tox scores 5.
- Alcohol free, which is the harder way to do it. Most room sprays use alcohol because it disperses oil cheaply and dries fast. Witch hazel does the same job more gently, and it is why this does not have the sharp solvent hit you get from an aerosol.
- Real oils, so it behaves like real oils. Ylang ylang is warm and floral, grapefruit is sharp and bright, and the two settle rather than shouting.
- Why Performance is not a 5. There is no synthetic fixative in it, so the scent settles within the hour rather than hanging about all day. That is the direct cost of a three-ingredient formula, and most people are buying it for exactly that reason.
- Hand-poured in small batches. Esencias make and bottle each one individually in Australia, which is why the range is small and why there is a person behind it.
- Amber glass, not plastic. Amber protects the oils from light degradation, and the bottle is worth refilling or reusing rather than binning. A refill is the one thing Esencias do not yet offer, which is the half point off Sustainability.
- Worth knowing about the oils. Grapefruit is a citrus oil and ylang ylang is strongly aromatic, and cats process both poorly. Mist upwards into the air rather than onto surfaces or bedding, and let it settle before pets are back in the room.

Our Take
Three ingredients: witch hazel, distilled water and essential oils, which is remarkable for a room spray. Ylang ylang brings the warmth and grapefruit the lift, and without a synthetic fixative it settles rather than hanging about for days.

Frequently asked
What is in it?
Three things: alcohol-free witch hazel, distilled water and plant-based essential oils. No propellant, no solubiliser, no fixative and no synthetic fragrance.
What does it smell like?
Warm, floral ylang ylang lifted with bright grapefruit. Because it uses real oils with nothing added to make them last, the scent settles rather than lingering for days the way a synthetic fragrance does.
Why is alcohol-free better?
Most room sprays use alcohol because it disperses oil cheaply and dries fast. Witch hazel does the same job more gently, which is why this has none of the sharp solvent hit of an aerosol.
Where can I use it?
Living rooms, kitchens and bathrooms. Shake well first, since oil and water separate naturally, then mist upwards into the air rather than at surfaces.
Any notes for pet owners?
Grapefruit is a citrus oil and ylang ylang is strongly aromatic, and cats process both poorly. Mist upwards into the air rather than onto bedding or surfaces, and let it settle before pets are back in the room. Esencias also advise keeping it out of reach of children and pets.
How big is it, and where is it made?
100ml in an amber glass bottle with a mist atomiser, hand-poured individually in Australia.
