- OEKO-TEX is the claim that matters on a towel. It means the cotton has been tested for harmful substances, which is the thing you cannot see and cannot wash out.
- 100% cotton, so nothing sheds. A cotton-polyester blend releases plastic fibres into the wash every cycle. Pure cotton does not, and it biodegrades at the end.
- A pair is the right unit. One in use, one in the wash, and they wear at the same rate so they still match in three years.
- Woven in Portugal. One of the two places that still does terry properly.

What is 530GSM, and is it good?
It is the weight of the towel. Fridah chose 530 deliberately: heavy enough to feel plush, light enough to dry properly between uses. Very heavy towels of 700GSM and up feel luxurious in the shop and then sit damp on the rail for two days.
Is the cotton certified?
Yes, OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which tests every component including threads and dyes against a list of harmful substances. Fridah describe it as 100% cotton; they do not describe it as organic, so neither do we.
Where are they made?
Portugal, which is the benchmark for terry weaving.
How do I keep them absorbent?
Wash before first use, then warm wash at 40 degrees with like colours. Avoid fabric softener above all: it coats the cotton fibres and is the most common reason a good towel stops absorbing. Also avoid optical brighteners and heavy fragrances.
