Can I just use a milk frother or a fork?
Not really. Matcha is a powder suspended in water rather than dissolved, and the hundred fine prongs of a chasen are what break up the clumps and raise the foam. A frother whips air in without dispersing the powder, and a fork does neither. It is the one piece of matcha kit that genuinely changes the result.
Does it come with a bowl?
No, the whisk only. The matching Matchy Matcha bowl and cup set is a separate listing and the two were designed together.
Is it plastic free?
The bamboo itself is bare, with no coating, varnish or paint. We have not tagged it plastic free because House of Nunu do not publish what the binding rope is made from, and we do not claim what we cannot check.
How do I look after it?
Rinse in warm water straight after use, never with detergent, and stand it prongs upward to air dry so water runs out of the tines. Do not put it in the dishwasher and do not leave it sitting in the bowl.
How long will it last?
A well-dried chasen used daily lasts months rather than years. The fine prongs are the part that goes, usually from being left wet or stored prong-down. Treat it as a consumable rather than an heirloom.
