Peppermint Glass Cleaner for a smear-free shine
Cuts through film and polishes windows, mirrors and glass doors to a streak-free finish, then discourages dust from resettling. No ammonia, so no headache and no watering eyes, and the alcohol that does the fast-drying work is sugar-derived rather than petrochemical. Koala Eco also describe the peppermint as an insect repellent, which is a useful side effect on a summer window.
Key Features
- Streak-free and smear-free on glass and mirrors.
- Sugar-based biodegradable alcohol, not isopropyl or ammonia.
- Australian peppermint essential oil, no synthetic fragrance.
- Koala Eco describe it as a natural disinfectant, and the peppermint as an insect repellent.
- Toxic Free certified.
- 500ml, or a 1L refill. 100% post-consumer recycled bottle.
Pure Standard
- Sugar-based alcohol rather than isopropyl. Glass cleaners need a fast-evaporating solvent so they do not streak, and the default is isopropyl alcohol or ammonia, both petrochemical and both responsible for the smell that clears a room. This uses a biodegradable alcohol fermented from sugar. Same result, different chemistry.
- Six ingredients, and you can pronounce all of them. Water, sugar alcohol, peppermint oil, a biodegradable solubiliser, citric acid and sodium benzoate. That is a short list for a product that has to dry without leaving anything behind.
- Toxic Free certified, one of several certification marks Koala Eco carry alongside 1% for the Planet and no animal testing.
- The peppermint is not just scent. Koala Eco position it as a natural antiseptic and insect deterrent, which is a reasonable thing to want on the inside of a window in February.
- Where we would like more. Koala Eco name the solubiliser only by function, not by compound, so this is a step behind their laundry and hand wash products which publish a fully itemised list. They also do not state a country of manufacture for this one.

Our Take
Streak-free glass without the ammonia headache or the watering eyes. The alcohol that makes it dry fast is fermented from sugar rather than pumped from a refinery, the peppermint is crisp, and it roams the whole house from mirrors to windows. The blue chemical spray is, at last, dismissed.

Not if you spray lightly. Over-spraying is the usual culprit. Wipe with a clean, lint-free cloth, and avoid doing a hot window in direct sun, which dries the spray before you can wipe it.
Does it contain ammonia or isopropyl alcohol?
Neither. The fast-drying alcohol in it is sugar-based and biodegradable, not petrochemical, which is why there is no ammonia smell.
What is in it?
Six things: purified water, sugar-based biodegradable alcohol, peppermint essential oil, a biodegradable solubiliser, citric acid as a pH adjuster and sodium benzoate as a preservative. Koala Eco name the solubiliser by function rather than by compound.
