Four ingredients. Water, a sugar-based alcohol to carry and evaporate, and two essential oils. That is the entire product, which is a rare thing to be able to say about anything sold to make a room smell better. Zesty, slightly tart pink grapefruit against cool peppermint, for a flat that has been shut up all day.

Key Features
  • Four ingredients. All of them named.
  • Pink grapefruit and peppermint essential oils. No synthetic fragrance.
  • Sugar-based biodegradable alcohol. Not petrochemical.
  • Rooms or linens. Mist either.
  • 250ml. In a 100% post-consumer recycled bottle.
  • 1% for the Planet. Koala Eco donate with every bottle sold.
Pūrē Standard
  • Four ingredients is the whole review. Water, sugar-based alcohol, pink grapefruit oil, peppermint oil. Compare that with a supermarket air freshener, where "fragrance" is one word standing in for a few dozen undisclosed compounds. This is the most transparent formula in the Koala Eco range.
  • It scents rather than masks. There is nothing in here designed to neutralise an odour chemically, which means it will not smother a smell you should probably deal with. It also means nothing is being deposited on your linen except two oils and some evaporating alcohol.
  • Sugar-based alcohol rather than petrochemical. Something has to carry the oils and flash off cleanly. Choosing a fermented alcohol over a solvent is the sort of decision nobody would notice if the brand skipped it.
  • 1% for the Planet. Which Koala Eco state on the product page, alongside a bottle that is recycled, recyclable and refillable.
  • Where we would like more, and one note for sensitive noses. Koala Eco do not state a country of manufacture for this product. And while there is no synthetic fragrance, pink grapefruit oil naturally contains limonene, which the brand mentions themselves. If you react to fragrance, a four-ingredient spray is still a fragranced one.

What is actually in it?

Four things: purified water, sugar-based biodegradable alcohol, pink grapefruit essential oil and peppermint essential oil. That is the complete list, which makes it the most transparent formula in the Koala Eco range.

Does it neutralise odours or just cover them?

It scents rather than neutralises. There is nothing in it designed to chemically mask a smell, which also means nothing is deposited on your linen beyond two oils and some evaporating alcohol.

Can I spray it on bedding?

Yes. Hold the bottle upright and mist lightly around the room or onto linens. Patch test first if you are unsure of a fabric.
