Five solid beechwood utensils, all 32cm so they clear the rim of a deep pot, LFGB certified and sealed with beeswax rather than a synthetic lacquer. Beechwood is dense and close-grained, so nothing melts into a hot pan and nothing scores your non-stick.

What You Get
  • Spoon. 32 x 6.5cm. Stirring, tasting, scraping.
  • Slotted spoon. 32 x 6.5cm. Lifts things out, leaves the liquid.
  • Large serving spoon. 32 x 8.5cm. The one that goes to the table.
  • Turner. 32 x 9cm. Eggs, pancakes, anything in a good pan.
  • Spaghetti spoon. 32 x 8cm. Pasta, and testing it.
Key Features
  • LFGB-certified beechwood. Rare on timber utensils.
  • Sealed with beeswax. Not a synthetic lacquer that wears through.
  • Safe on non-stick. Softer than steel, so nothing gets scored.
  • Non-reactive. Tomato and lemon are fine.
  • All 32cm. Reaches a stockpot base, knuckles out of the steam.
Pūrē Standard
  • Nothing to melt, nothing to shed. Nylon degrades against heat and silicone eventually tears. Beechwood does neither, which is the whole point against a hot pan.
  • It protects what you own. Scoring a non-stick coating is what releases what sits underneath it.
  • Solid timber, not a composite. No glue, no veneer, no particle core. Beeswax is the only finish.
  • Certified, which is rare on wood. Most wooden utensils are sold on the look of the timber and nothing else.
  • Beeswax means it is not vegan. Natural, but not vegan, and we would rather say so than let you find out.
  • Where we would like more. China is named, but no FSC or PEFC chain of custody for the timber and no factory audit.

Our Take

Most kitchens have a drawer of nylon utensils with melted edges, and those edges went somewhere. Five pieces of solid beechwood solve it, though the beeswax finish means it is not vegan.

Frequently asked

What is in the beechwood utensil set?

Five pieces: a spoon, a slotted spoon, a large serving spoon, a turner and a spaghetti spoon. All are 32cm long, with widths from 6.5cm to 9cm.

Is this utensil set vegan?

No. The beechwood is sealed with beeswax, which is an animal product, so we have not tagged it vegan. The finish is natural, but natural and vegan are different things.

Can beechwood utensils go in the dishwasher?

No. The heat and the long soak are exactly what split wooden handles. Hand wash, rinse and dry straight away, which takes about two minutes.

Are wooden utensils safe on non-stick pans?

Yes, and they are the safest option. Wood is softer than steel so it cannot score the coating, and scoring is what releases what is underneath it.

Is the wood certified?

The beechwood is LFGB certified, the German food-contact standard, which is unusual for timber utensils. There is no FSC or PEFC chain-of-custody certificate published for the timber source, which we would like to see.

Why have mine gone darker?

Beechwood deepens in colour with use and oiling. That is the timber behaving normally. A wipe of food-safe wood oil now and then keeps the grain closed and the tone even.
