A bench-top compost caddy that is good enough looking to leave out, which is the only way composting actually happens. Durable iron in a matte finish, with a charcoal filter in the lid that keeps the smell in the bin rather than in the kitchen.

Which One Do I Need?
  • Mushroom. Off-white. The one that disappears on a pale bench.
  • Eucalyptus. Soft muted green, the warmest of the four.
  • Almond. Warm sand, quieter again than Mushroom.
  • Ink. Deep charcoal navy. The dark one, and the one for a monochrome kitchen.
Key Features
  • 6.9L. Sized for a week of scraps on the bench.
  • Durable iron body. With a matte painted finish.
  • Replaceable charcoal filter. In the lid, to trap odours.
  • Carry handle. For emptying without a juggling act.
  • Fits the 8L compostable liners. Which meet Australian Standard AS4736.
Pūrē Standard
  • Iron, not plastic. A rigid, durable material that will not warp, stain or hold odour the way a plastic caddy does, and is recyclable at end of life.
  • The filter is replaceable, not sealed in. Seed & Sprout sell replacements separately, so a spent filter does not mean a new bin. That is a small thing that quietly decides whether a product lasts a decade or two years.
  • AS4736 on the liners is a real standard. It means genuine home compostability, not the vaguer "biodegradable" claim.
  • It does the one job that matters. Most people stop composting because the kitchen bin smells. The charcoal filter is the difference.
  • Where we would like more. The matte finish is painted, so it needs warm soapy water rather than the dishwasher, and it is an indoor bin only. Worth knowing before it lives by the back door.

Our Take

Handsome enough to leave on the bench, which is the only way composting actually happens. The charcoal filter is replaceable rather than sealed in, so scraps stay a bin rather than a smell.

Frequently asked

How big is it?

6.9L, 23cm high by 22cm wide. It fits Seed & Sprout's 8L home compostable liners, which meet Australian Standard AS4736.

Does it keep the smell in?

Yes, that is what the charcoal filter in the lid is for, and it is the single reason most people stick with composting rather than giving up. The filter is replaceable and Seed & Sprout sell spares.

What is it made from?

Durable iron with a matte painted finish. It is rigid, it will not warp or hold odour the way a plastic caddy does, and it is recyclable at the end of a long life.

How do I clean it?

Warm soapy water for both the bin and the filter, then air dry both fully before reassembling. Do not put it in the dishwasher and avoid hot or boiling water, which can damage the paint.

Can I keep it outside?

No, it is an indoor bench-top bin. Outdoor use will shorten its life, and hot food should not go in it either.
