A lidded enamel roasting dish, oven safe to 250 degrees, where the lid traps steam while the meat cooks and then doubles as a tray at the table. LFGB-certified vitreous enamel on steel, with no non-stick coating anywhere in it.

Key Features
  • Oven safe to 250 degrees. Hot enough for a proper roast.
  • The lid works twice. Steams in the oven, serves on the table.
  • No non-stick coating. Nothing to scratch, flake or off-gas.
  • LFGB certified, REACH compliant. Lead, cadmium, mercury and chromium VI limits.
  • 28.5 x 23cm. A chicken, or vegetables for four.
Pūrē Standard
  • It replaces a non-stick roasting pan. PTFE coatings degrade above 260 degrees and roasting is the one job that gets a pan that hot.
  • Certified, not just described. LFGB is tested harder than the FDA equivalent, and REACH covers the heavy metals. Most enamelware claims neither.
  • Two materials, nothing else. Glass fused to steel. No liner, no coating, no composite.
  • It ends the foil habit. The lid does what a sheet of single-use foil was doing.
  • Where we would like more. China is named, but no factory audit, no take-back scheme and no plastic-free packaging claim on this line.

Our Take

Roasting routinely takes a pan past the temperature non-stick tolerates, which makes it the task non-stick is least suited to. This is glass on steel, so heat is not a problem.

Frequently asked

How hot can an enamel roasting dish go?

Seed and Sprout rate it to 250 degrees Celsius in the oven. It is also fridge and freezer safe, but not microwave safe because of the steel core.

What is the lid for?

Covered, it traps steam so meat stays moist and the oven stays cleaner. Off, it works as a serving tray or a second shallow dish, which is why the set is two usable pieces rather than one.

Is enamel better than non-stick for roasting?

For high heat, yes. PTFE non-stick coatings begin to degrade above about 260 degrees, and roasting regularly runs at 200 to 240. Enamel is glass and has no coating to break down.

Do things stick to enamel?

Less than people expect, though it is not non-stick in the PTFE sense. A little oil and letting it cool slightly before lifting food out handles most of it.

Can I use metal tongs in it?

Better not to. Metal chips enamel, and a chip through to the steel core ends the dish's food use. Wooden or silicone tools only.

Is the enamel safe for food?

It is LFGB certified, the German food-contact standard, and complies with EU REACH including limits on lead, cadmium, mercury and chromium VI. Enamel is glass, so there is nothing to leach.
