- Soy, not paraffin, and they say so plainly. Paraffin is a petroleum byproduct and it is what most cheap candles are made of. 100% soy burns cleaner and cooler, which is the decision that matters most in something you burn in a closed room.
- A wooden wick has no metal core. The lead-cored wicks that caused the fuss decades ago are long gone from reputable candles, but a wooden wick sidesteps the question entirely, and it burns with a low crackle rather than a smoking tip.
- Phthalate-free fragrance, cut with essential oils. For something you burn in a closed room for 35 hours, the fragrance question is not academic. They do not publish the ratio of essential oil to fragrance oil, which we would like.
- Hand poured in Brisbane, and boxed for gifting. The printed box means it needs no wrapping, which is a real practical advantage over an unboxed candle.
- The jar is genuinely reusable. Amber glass, straight-sided. Wash it out with hot soapy water once the wax is gone and it is a decent tumbler or brush pot.

How to Use
- First burn matters most. Let the wax pool reach the edges of the jar before you put it out, or it will tunnel for the rest of its life.
- Trim every time. Take the wooden wick down to about 3mm before each burn. One that will not stay lit usually just needs trimming.
- Never unattended. Keep away from draughts, children and pets.
- Know when to stop. Put it aside when about 1cm of wax remains.
