Pre-order, dispatch date to be confirmed. The kitchen oil. Lemongrass is sharp, green and properly citrus, the scent most people associate with a clean room rather than a perfumed one, which is why it turns up in so many natural cleaning products. Marked 100% organic and pure on the bottle, 15ml of Cymbopogon Flexuosus, bottled in Australia on the Gold Coast. One thing to know before you buy: Urban Sun say lemongrass is not recommended for use around pets.

Pre-order
  • Dispatch date to be confirmed. It depends on the maker's next delivery. Email us for the current estimate. Payment is taken at checkout, which is how we hold your bottle against the order.
  • Ordering other things too? Tell us and we will split the parcel so the in-stock items leave now at no extra cost.
  • Changed your mind? Email us any time before it ships and we will refund it, no questions.
Key Features
  • Single oil, not a blend. Cymbopogon Flexuosus, marked 100% organic and pure on the carton.
  • 15ml amber glass. Roughly 300 drops, with an integrated dropper insert.
  • Australian owned, bottled on the Gold Coast. Urban Sun are a family-run business, certified Australian owned. The oils themselves are sourced rather than grown here.
  • The one that smells like clean. Sharp and green rather than sweet. It cuts through kitchen smells instead of layering over them.
  • Not for homes with pets. Urban Sun are explicit about this one, so we are too.
  • Vegan and cruelty free. Both stated by the brand for this product.
Pūrē Standard
  • Why we bought it. Lemongrass is the scent doing the work in a lot of natural kitchen sprays. Buying the oil on its own means you choose where it goes and at what strength, instead of paying for someone else's dilution.
  • One ingredient, named properly. The botanical name is printed on the bottle, which is more than many oils sold on mood alone manage.
  • Amber glass, which matters here. Citrus oils are the quickest to degrade in light. Amber glass is not styling, it is what keeps this one usable.
  • We are not repeating the health claims. Urban Sun describe antibacterial and antifungal properties for lemongrass. We have left that out, because we have not seen testing on this product and a scent is not a sanitiser. Buy it because it smells like a clean kitchen.
  • The pet warning is the headline, not the footnote. A lot of retailers bury this. If you have a cat or a dog, buy the cedarwood instead.
  • Where we would like more. The carton says organic but Urban Sun do not name a certifying body, publish a GC/MS batch report, or state which country the botanical was grown and distilled in before it was bottled here. We have asked. Until they answer, treat organic as the brand's own claim rather than a certification.

How to Use
  • In a diffuser. 6 to 10 drops, adjusted for the size of your room and your diffuser. That figure is Urban Sun's own.
  • On your skin. Dilute first, at 1 to 3% in a carrier oil such as jojoba or almond. Never apply it neat.
  • In the kitchen. A few drops in a bowl of hot water on the bench while you cook, or on a cloth wiped over a bin lid. Keep it off stone and sealed timber, because neat oil can mark them.
  • Do not use it around pets. Not diffused, not on surfaces they walk on.
Safety
  • Not recommended for use around pets. Urban Sun's own wording, and the reason we have not tagged this one pet safe.
  • For diffusing and external use only. Do not ingest it.
  • Always dilute before applying to skin. Lemongrass is one of the more common sensitisers, so patch test first.
  • Keep out of reach of children and animals.
  • Pregnancy. No warning is published for this oil. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your practitioner before using any essential oil.
Good to Know
  • The dropper insert is plastic. The bottle and carton are glass and card, but the integrated dripolator is not, so we have not tagged this plastic free.
  • It is strong. Lemongrass carries further than most. Start at the bottom of the range or it will take over the house.
  • Not gift boxed. It arrives in its own printed carton, which is handsome, but it is not wrapped.

Frequently asked

Can I use this if I have a cat or a dog?

No. Urban Sun state that lemongrass is not recommended for use around pets, and we would not diffuse it in a home with animals or wipe it over surfaces they walk on. The cedarwood in this range carries no such warning and is the better choice.

Does it actually kill bacteria?

We are not going to tell you that it does. Urban Sun describe antibacterial and antifungal properties, but we have not seen testing on this product and a diffused oil is not a disinfectant. Buy it because it smells like a clean kitchen, and keep using a real cleaner for the cleaning.

How many drops in a diffuser?

6 to 10, adjusted for the size of your room and your diffuser. That range is Urban Sun's own. Lemongrass carries further than most oils, so start at the bottom of it.

Can I use it on kitchen surfaces?

A few drops on a damp cloth over a bin lid or inside a cupboard is fine. Keep neat oil off stone and sealed timber, because it can mark them, and always dilute.

Is it certified organic?

The carton is marked 100% organic and pure, but Urban Sun do not name a certifying body or publish a batch analysis. We have asked. Until they answer, treat organic as the brand's own claim rather than a third party certification.

What is the difference between lemongrass and citronella?

They are close botanical relatives and smell similar. Lemongrass is sweeter and greener and tends indoors. Citronella is drier and sharper and is the one traditionally used outside. Both are in this range.
