Common questions
What makes a home fragrance low tox?
Lower tox home fragrance leans on natural soy or coconut wax, lead free wicks and essential oils or phthalate free fragrance, rather than paraffin and undisclosed synthetic perfume. We rate every candle, diffuser, incense and room spray against our Pūrē Standard, and note honestly where a scent uses fragrance oils rather than pure essential oils.
Are soy and coconut candles better than paraffin?
Generally yes. Natural soy and coconut wax burn slower and cleaner than paraffin, which is petroleum derived, and our candles pair them with genuinely lead free wicks. It is a meaningfully cleaner burn for your indoor air.
Is incense safe to burn indoors?
Incense does produce smoke, so we recommend burning it in a well ventilated space and never leaving it unattended. We stock natural, hand rolled incense that avoids synthetic binders where possible, with the details on each product page.
Do you have fragrance options that are safe around pets?
Some are gentler than others. Certain essential oils are not suitable around cats and dogs, so if you have pets we suggest flameless, lightly scented options and good ventilation, and checking the caution notes on each product. When in doubt, air out the room.
What is the difference between a room spray, diffuser and candle?
A candle scents a room as it burns and adds ambient light, a reed or ultrasonic diffuser gives a continuous flameless scent, and a room or linen spray offers an instant refresh you control. Ultrasonic diffusers and sprays are the easiest flame free choices for homes with children or pets.
