- The stick itself is the giveaway. Budget incense is usually a bamboo splint rolled in charcoal and synthetic binder, which is where most of the acrid smoke comes from. This uses wood powders from sandalwood, joss and pine, so the base burns cleanly instead of competing with the fragrance.
- Sugarcane bioethanol, not petroleum solvent. Something has to carry the oil into the stick. Choosing a plant-derived alcohol over a petrochemical one is an unglamorous decision that nobody would notice if they skipped it.
- An unusually gentle profile for incense. Lavender, sage, cucumber and chamomile is closer to a herb garden than a temple. If incense has previously been too heavy or too sweet for you, this is the one to try.
- Handmade in Australia. That is unusual in a category where almost everything on the shelf is imported.
- Where we would like more. Urganiqa name the woods, the binder and the oil types but do not publish a full itemised ingredient list, and the blend uses fragrance oils alongside essential oils. That is the only thing holding Transparency and Low-Tox at 4.
