- Six ingredients, and as the maker puts it, that is all. Sandalwood powder, tonka bean powder, white copal powder, pure vanilla essential oil, guar gum and water. That full disclosure is the reason we brought it in: almost nothing else in this category will tell you what is in the stick.
- Real plant material, not a scented stick. Ground tonka bean and white copal resin are the incense itself rather than fragrance sprayed onto a blank bamboo core, which is how most incense is made.
- Pure vanilla essential oil. Vanilla is the note most often faked with synthetic vanillin, so real oil here is worth knowing about.
- Guar gum as the binder. A plant gum doing the job that synthetic binders usually do, with water as the only other input.
- Forty-five minutes per stick. Roughly double a standard stick, so a box of 25 lasts.
- Handmade, so batches vary. Expect slight differences in appearance and burn. We would rather that than uniformity.
