Pure Standard
- Five ingredients, and as the maker puts it, that is all. Sandalwood powder, pineapple powder, ylang-ylang essential oil, guar gum and water. That full disclosure is the reason we brought it in: almost nothing else in this category will tell you what is in the stick.
- The fruit is actual fruit. Pineapple powder and real ylang-ylang oil, rather than a tropical fragrance sprayed onto a blank bamboo core, which is how most incense is made.
- Pure ylang-ylang essential oil doing the floral work, in a category where synthetic perfume is the norm.
- Guar gum as the binder. A plant gum doing the job that synthetic binders usually do, with water as the only other input.

Our Take
Pineapple sounds like a novelty candle and is in fact a soft, sun-warmed thing, more island afternoon than fruit salad. Sandalwood does the quiet work underneath. We light it in the middle of winter when the weather is being unhelpful.
