A single wood-wicked soy candle in amber glass, hand-poured in Australia and scented with lavender and lemon essential oils rather than fragrance oil. Lavender settles the room, lemon keeps it from turning heavy, and the wood wick gives you the crackle and a warm amber glow. Around 40 hours of burn time.

- Essential oils, not fragrance oil. This is the line most candles quietly cross, because essential oils are far more expensive and much harder to make throw scent in wax. Esencias state it plainly on the label, and it is the main reason this one is in the shop.
- Soy wax rather than paraffin. Paraffin is a petroleum by-product. Soy burns cleaner and cooler, and it is the reason a 250ml jar gets you around 40 hours rather than 25.
- A wood wick, which is a real choice. Wood wicks crackle, throw a wider warm glow and contain no metal core. They are also fussier to light and need trimming, which is the trade-off you are making.
- Hand-poured in small batches in Australia. Printed on the jar alongside cruelty free and natural soy wax, so it is a label claim rather than just website copy.
- Amber glass worth keeping. Once the wax is gone the jar washes out and makes a perfectly good vessel for brushes, pens or a small plant.
- Why Performance is not a 5, and it is the honest trade. Essential oils do not throw scent as far as synthetic fragrance oil does. This one fills a bathroom, a bedside or a small lounge rather than an open-plan living area. That reach is the price of the thing that makes it worth buying, and we would rather tell you than let you find out.
- The one sustainability question. Esencias do not publish where the soy is grown, which is worth asking of any soy candle. Everything else here is named: the oils, the wick, the vessel and the person pouring it.

How to Use
- Trim the wick. Take it to 3mm before each burn. This matters more with wood than cotton.
- First burn matters most. Let the wax pool reach the edges of the jar, which sets the memory of the burn and prevents tunnelling.
- Be patient lighting it. Wood wicks take a few seconds to catch. Hold the flame to the wick rather than the wax.
- Never unattended. Keep it away from children and pets.
