Description

The Salento Stripe in Cactus, a soft green against cream, in both pieces: a 530GSM bath sheet and a matching hand towel, in 100% cotton woven in Portugal and certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100. Buy either on its own, or take the pair. The bath sheet is generously oversized rather than a standard bath towel, and the weight is chosen deliberately: heavy enough to feel substantial, light enough to actually dry between uses.

Which One Do I Need?
  • Bath Sheet. Generously oversized, the one to wrap in.
  • Hand Towel. The same stripe and weight, for the basin.
Key Features
  • 100% cotton. Natural softness, absorbency and breathability, with no synthetic blend.
  • OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified. Independently tested and free from harmful substances.
  • 530GSM. Chosen for drying speed as much as for softness.
  • Woven in Portugal. One of the two places in Europe still doing terry properly.
  • Two pieces, one stripe. Bath sheet and hand towel in the same weave.
Pūrē Standard
  • The performance is specified, not promised. 530GSM is a published density and OEKO-TEX is independent testing rather than the brand's own word. You can tell how this will dry and how it will wear before you buy it, which is more than a plush label tells you.
  • OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 is the specific one you want. Not a general sustainability badge. It means every component, thread and dye included, has been tested for harmful substances. On something you wrap a wet body in daily, that is the claim that matters.
  • 530GSM is the interesting number. Most premium towels chase weight for its own sake and end up damp for two days. Fridah pick 530 on purpose, for drying speed as much as plushness.
  • Green is the harder colour to get right in a bathroom. Most go either sickly or municipal. Cactus is muted enough to sit against timber, stone or white tile without taking the room over, which is why it is the one we chose to bring in alongside the brown.
  • No synthetic blend. Nothing sheds plastic microfibres into the wash, and it biodegrades at end of life.
  • Packed in paper and card. No plastic sleeve, which is rarer for towels than it should be.
  • Where we would like more. Fridah publish the fibre, the GSM, the certification and the country, which is more than most. They do not publish the finished dimensions of either piece.

Care Instructions
  • Wash before first use. 40°C gives the best plushness and absorbency.
  • Tumble dry gently. A low, gentle cycle keeps the loops intact.
  • Skip the fabric softener. It coats the loops and reduces absorbency.
  • Snip, do not pull. Small pulls in terry are normal. Trim them at the base with sharp scissors.

Our Take

The green that actually works in a bathroom: muted enough to sit against timber or white tile without taking over. OEKO-TEX certified cotton, woven in Portugal.

Good to know

Frequently asked

What colour is Cactus?

A soft, muted green striped against cream. It is deliberately not a bright or a sage: it sits against timber, stone and white tile without taking the room over.

Should I get the bath sheet or the hand towel?

The bath sheet is generously oversized rather than a standard bath towel, so it is the one to wrap in. The hand towel is the same stripe and weight for the basin. Most people want both, which is why they are on one page.

Is the cotton certified?

Yes, OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100, which tests every component including threads and dyes against a list of harmful substances. Fridah describe it as 100% cotton; they do not describe it as organic, so neither do we.

Why 530GSM and not heavier?

Drying speed. Very heavy towels of 700GSM and up feel luxurious in the shop and then sit damp on the rail for two days. Fridah chose 530 deliberately: plush enough to feel substantial, light enough to dry between uses.

Where is it made?

Woven in Portugal, which is the benchmark for terry weaving, by a family run mill.

Will it shed microplastics?

No. It is 100% cotton with no synthetic blend, so nothing sheds plastic microfibres into the wash and it biodegrades at the end of its life.

How do I keep it absorbent?

Wash before first use at 40 degrees, then avoid fabric softener above all. It coats the cotton loops and is the most common reason a good towel stops absorbing.

My towel has a small pull in the loops, is that a fault?

No, small pulls in terry are normal. Snip them at the base with sharp scissors rather than pulling them, and the weave stays intact.
