An enamel storage jar with a silicone-sealed lid, for the flour, coffee or pasta that currently lives in a plastic tub. Opaque, so light cannot degrade what is inside, and non-porous, so it never holds the smell of the last thing in it.
Which Size Do I Need?
- Medium, 1.3 litres. 14 x 16cm. Coffee, sugar, rice.
- Large, 1.7 litres. 14 x 20cm. Flour, pasta, cereal.
Key Features
- Silicone-sealed lid. Keeps air and pantry moths out.
- Opaque enamel. No light getting to the contents.
- LFGB certified, REACH compliant. Lead, cadmium, mercury and chromium VI limits.
- Non-porous. Coffee today, flour next month, no ghost smell.
- Stacks and nests. Built to sit in a row.
Pūrē Standard
- It replaces a plastic pantry tub. Dry goods sit in those for months at a time, which is the longest contact most food has with any container.
- Certified, not just described. LFGB is tested harder than the FDA equivalent, and REACH covers the heavy metals. Most enamelware claims neither.
- Opaque beats clear. Light degrades oils, spices and ground coffee. A glass jar on a bench does not stop that.
- Nothing to wear through. Vitreous enamel is glass. There is no liner or coating to scratch off.
- Where we would like more. China is named, but no factory audit and no take-back scheme for the enamel range.

Care Instructions
- Hand wash. The brand recommends it over the dishwasher.
- Do not soak. Water sitting on a rim can work into a chip.
- Dry before refilling. Dry goods and damp enamel do not mix.
- Retire it if the steel shows. A chip through to the core ends its food use.

Our Take
Dry goods sit in a container for months, which makes the pantry the longest food contact in the house, and it is almost always plastic. Enamel is glass fused to steel.

Good to know
Frequently asked
Is the enamel storage jar airtight?
The lid has a silicone seal, which keeps air and pantry moths out and holds dry goods well. Seed and Sprout do not publish an airtight rating, so we will not claim one.
Which size should I buy?
Medium is 1.3 litres, 14 x 16cm, and suits coffee, sugar or rice. Large is 1.7 litres, 14 x 20cm, and suits flour, pasta or cereal. Most kitchens use one of each.
Is enamel better than glass for storage?
For anything light-sensitive, yes. Enamel is opaque, so oils, ground coffee and spices do not degrade on a sunny bench. Glass wins only when you want to see the contents.
Is the enamel safe for food?
It is LFGB certified, the German food-contact standard, and complies with EU REACH including limits on lead, cadmium, mercury and chromium VI. Enamel is glass, so there is nothing to leach.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
It is dishwasher safe, but the brand recommends hand washing to protect the finish and we pass that on. Do not soak it and skip the steel wool.
What if it chips?
A small chip on the outside is cosmetic. A chip that exposes the steel core means it should stop being used for food. Most chips come from metal knocking against it.
