Soil Wetter Concentrate
For Hydrophobic Potting Mix
If you water a pot and it runs straight out the bottom, the mix has gone hydrophobic and the water never reached the roots.
- Helps water soak into repellent soils

If you water a pot and it runs straight out the bottom seconds later, the mix has gone hydrophobic and the water never reached the roots at all. This fixes that. A concentrate that lets water soak in deeply and stay there, with a boost of beneficial microbes for the soil itself. Works on pots, garden beds, lawns and nursery stock.
Key Features
- Penetration. Helps water soak deeply into water-repellent soils.
- Retention. Holds moisture in the root zone for longer.
- Less waste. Reduces run-off and dry patches.
- Beneficial microbes. They support soil health and nutrient uptake.
- It helps your fertiliser. Improves the effectiveness of what you are already using.
- Less watering. Reduces how often you need to do it.
- Size and scope. A 500ml concentrate, safe for all soil types.
Pūrē Standard
- It solves a problem most people misdiagnose. A pot that drains instantly is usually read as "needs more water", when the mix has actually turned water-repellent and the water is running down the sides. Wetting the soil properly means less watering, not more, which is the opposite of what instinct suggests.
- Microbes as well as surfactant. A plain wetting agent only changes surface tension. Adding beneficial microbes means it also works on nutrient cycling in the soil rather than just moving water around.
- It makes your other inputs work harder. Fertiliser applied to hydrophobic soil largely runs off. The Home Plant Co specifically claim it improves fertiliser effectiveness, which is a reasonable argument for using it before you buy more plant food.
- A concentrate. You are not paying to ship a bottle of water, and it goes further than a ready-to-use product of the same size.
- Where we would like more. The Home Plant Co publish no ingredient list, no dilution ratio and no country of manufacture. They are Australian owned and operated and describe themselves as certified horticulturists with thirty years' experience, but for a product that goes into soil we would rather see what is actually in it. That is what holds Transparency at 3.

How to Use
- Dilute. Follow the directions on the label. The Home Plant Co do not publish a ratio online.
- Apply to soil. Around the root zone, not onto the foliage.
- Water it in. That carries it down through the mix.
- Badly hydrophobic pots. Apply slowly and let it soak rather than flooding it, or it will run down the sides again.
- Where it works. Lawns, garden beds, pots and nursery use.

Our Take
For soil that has gone hydrophobic and now repels water like a sulking teenager. Counter-intuitively it means you water less, not more, because the water actually reaches the roots.

Frequently asked
What does a soil wetter actually do?
When potting mix dries out badly it turns water-repellent, so water runs down the sides and straight out the bottom without ever reaching the roots. A wetter changes that so the water soaks in and stays in the root zone.
My pot drains in seconds. Do I need to water more?
Usually the opposite. Instant drainage is the classic sign of hydrophobic mix, not thirst. Wetting the soil properly means the water is retained, so you water less often rather than more.
How do I apply it?
Dilute per the label directions, apply to the soil around the root zone rather than the leaves, and water it in. For a badly dried-out pot, apply slowly and let it soak in rather than flooding it, or it will run down the sides again.
Does it do anything besides move water around?
It includes beneficial microbes that support soil health and nutrient uptake, and The Home Plant Co say it improves the effectiveness of fertilisers you are already using.
Where can I use it?
Lawns, garden beds, pots and nursery stock. It is safe for all soil types.
What is in it, and where is it made?
The Home Plant Co do not publish a full ingredient list, a dilution ratio or a country of manufacture. They are Australian owned and operated. The missing formulation detail is why we have scored transparency at 3.
