The Laundry Set

• Everyday wash. Ease.y Earth laundry detergent sheets, Clean Cotton, 80 washes in a cardboard box. No optical brighteners.
• Stains. Murchison-Hume The Stain Solution, fragrance free, with five enzymes for grass, wine, ink, sweat and food.
• Working the stain in. Murchison-Hume oiled beechwood laundry brush, for collars, cuffs and waistbands.
• Silks and delicates. Bondi Wash Delicate Wash, Blue Cypress & Petitgrain. Neutral pH and enzyme free, for silk, lace and fine knits.
• Softening. Readthelabel fabric softener, Eucalyptus Dives & Geranium. An esterquat from sunflower oil in place of synthetic quats.
• Fresh sheets. Koala Eco pillow & linen spray, Eucalyptus, Peppermint & Rosalina.

Every piece is checked and scored against the Pūrē Standard. Same price as buying each piece separately.

• One piece per job. Wash, stains, delicates, softening and linen, with nothing doubling up.
• No optical brighteners anywhere. They do not clean, they deposit a fluorescent dye so whites look whiter in daylight.
• No synthetic quats in the softener. The waxy build-up that stops towels absorbing usually comes from them.
• Enzymes where they help, none where they harm. Five enzymes in the stain remover, and none in the delicate wash, because enzymes break down silk and wool.
• Light to post. 80 washes of detergent in about 250g of sheets.

Every piece in this set is scored on its own against the Pūrē Standard. The set score is the average of the pieces.

• Ease.y Earth laundry sheets. Scores 4 out of 5 on its own, strongest on transparency and packaging (4.5), softest on low-tox (3). It contains sodium dodecyl sulfate, in the same family as SLS, and a PVA dissolving film. If sulfate free is your goal, swap in a liquid wash.
• Murchison-Hume The Stain Solution. Scores 4.2 out of 5 on its own, strongest on performance and transparency (5), softest on sustainability and packaging (3.5). Phenoxyethanol is the one synthetic preservative on the list.
• Murchison-Hume laundry brush. Scores 4 out of 5 on its own, strongest on low-tox (5), softest on performance and transparency (3.5). Murchison-Hume do not say whether the bristles are plant or animal, so we do not tag it vegan.
• Bondi Wash Delicate Wash. Scores 4.4 out of 5 on its own, strongest on low-tox and transparency (5), softest on packaging (3.5).
• Readthelabel fabric softener. Scores 4 out of 5 on its own, strongest on low-tox and transparency (4.5), softest on performance and sustainability (3.5). It is a litre of liquid made in the UK.
• Koala Eco pillow & linen spray. Scores 4.2 out of 5 on its own, strongest on transparency (5), softest on performance (3). Eucalyptus, peppermint and rosalina are oils cats can be sensitive to, so do not mist it around a cat's bed.
• Where we would like more. Performance is the set's softest score at 3.8 out of 5, mostly down to the linen spray.

Overall set score:

• Everyday wash. Put the sheet in the drum first, clothes on top. One sheet for a regular load, two for a large load, three for an extra-large or heavily soiled one. Works in hot or cold.
• Stains. Apply a small amount of The Stain Solution straight onto the stain, work it in with the laundry brush in small circles, leave 5 to 10 minutes, then wash as usual. Repeat on set-in stains.
• Delicates. 2 capfuls (10ml) for a hand wash. 4 capfuls (20ml) in a front loader, or 4 to 6 capfuls in a top loader.
• Softener. Into the machine's softener compartment, filled to the line. Not into the drum.
• Linen spray. Mist lightly over pillowcases and linen.

• Laundry brush. Never soak it, and always air dry after use.
• Liquids. Keep out of direct sunlight and out of reach of children. Use the delicate wash within 12 months of opening.
• Sheets. Keep the box dry.
