A beechwood dish brush with a head you replace, not a brush you throw away. Medium-stiff sisal bristles, firm enough for a baked-on tray and safe on good glassware. When they splay, the head composts and a new one clips on, and you can buy either here.
Which One Do I Need?
- Dish Brush. The whole thing. 21cm beechwood handle, 4.5cm sisal head, steel clip. Start here.
- Replacement Head. Just the 4.5cm head, 45g. For when the bristles splay and you already own the handle.
Key Features
- Replaceable head. Compost the old one, snap on a new one.
- Sisal bristles. Safe on non-stick, fine china and crystal.
- 21cm handle. Hands stay out of the hot water.
- Beechwood and plant fibre. No plastic anywhere in it.
- 4.5cm head. Fits a mug, covers a plate.
Pūrē Standard
- The head composts. A nylon brush gets binned whole. This one loses a 4.5cm head and keeps the handle.
- Nothing sheds into the sink. Plastic bristles abrade into the drain with every scrub. Sisal does not.
- Three materials, all separable. Beechwood, sisal, a steel clip. No coating, no composite.
- It protects what you own. Scratching a non-stick pan is what starts it degrading.
- The refill actually exists. Plenty of brands sell a replaceable head and then never stock it. We stock ours as a second option on this page.
- Where we would like more. China is named and it is made exclusively for them, but there is no timber certification and no factory audit.

Care Instructions
- Rinse and stand it up. Bristles down, out of the sink.
- Never leave it soaking. Standing water splits the handle.
- Soap on the bristles. A pump straight on, not into the water.
- Replace the head, not the brush. Splayed bristles mean a new head, not a new brush.

Our Take
The dish brush is the thing in your kitchen most likely to be plastic, and it is on your plates every night. When the bristles splay you compost a small head instead of binning the brush.

Frequently asked
Where do I get replacement heads?
Right here. Choose Replacement Head instead of Dish Brush at the top of this page. It is the same 4.5cm sisal head, 45g, and it clips onto the handle you already own.
Will it scratch my non-stick pans?
No. Murchison-Hume rate the sisal as safe on non-stick, fine china and crystal. Worth knowing, because scratching a non-stick coating is what starts it breaking down.
Is the head really compostable?
Yes. Beechwood and sisal, both plant materials, with no plastic core. The steel clip is not compostable but it stays on the handle.
How long does a head last?
Months rather than weeks for most households. What shortens it is leaving the brush standing in water, not how hard you scrub.
How is it different to a plastic dish brush?
Plastic bristles abrade into the drain as microplastic every time you use them. Sisal does not. And a nylon brush is binned whole, where this keeps its handle.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
No. Dishwasher heat plus a long soak is exactly what splits a wooden handle. Rinse it and stand it up to dry.
