Inspired by the pillars at the Acropolis, the Athens planter combines classic style with the functionality of a drainage hole and matching saucer. It is stoneware, in a textured sand finish, and the fluting is deep enough to throw a proper shadow rather than just hint at a column.
Key Features
- Stoneware. In a textured sand finish.
- Drainage hole and matching saucer. Both included and functional.
- Fluted, column-inspired silhouette. Drawn from the Acropolis.
- Part of the Athens range. Which also comes in black and white.
Pūrē Standard
- It drains, which most decorative pots do not. A real drainage hole and a matching saucer mean you can plant directly into it instead of hiding a plastic nursery pot inside. Root rot from a sealed cachepot is the most common way a houseplant dies indoors, so this is a functional choice rather than a styling one.
- Stoneware, not a plastic composite. Fired clay is inert. It does not off-gas, it does not shed microplastics into your potting mix, and it will not go chalky and brittle in a sunny window the way a plastic pot does. For something holding damp soil in your living room for years, that matters more than it sounds.
- Built to outlast the plant in it. Heavy, solid, and the opposite of disposable. This is a pot you repot into rather than one you replace.
- It comes as a set, if you want it to. Athens runs across black, white and sand in more than one size, so a single pot can turn into a considered group on a shelf rather than a one-off.
- Where we would like more. Potted publish the material, the finish, the external height and the internal diameter for every pot in the range, which is more than most homewares brands manage. Their trade listings give the country of manufacture as China.

Our Take
A fluted little column in a warm textured sand, with a drainage hole and a matching saucer, which is more than most decorative pots bother with. Heavy, inert, and it will outlive several plants.

Frequently asked
What is the Athens planter made from?
Stoneware, with a textured sand finish. Potted publish the material for every pot in the range.
Does it have drainage?
Yes. A functional drainage hole and a matching saucer, which is the practical difference between a planter and a decorative pot. It means you can plant directly into it rather than hiding a nursery pot inside.
What size is it?
Potted make Athens in small, at 13.5cm external height with a 10cm internal diameter, and medium, at 16cm external height with a 13cm internal diameter. If the fit matters, ask us and we will measure the stock before you order.
Is it made from recycled material?
No. Athens is stoneware. Potted's recycled ranges are Austin and Portland, which are made from 70 percent post-consumer recycled plastics and agricultural byproducts.
What other colours does it come in?
Potted make the Athens planter in black and white as well as this sand.
How do I care for it?
Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Use the saucer, and tip out standing water rather than letting the pot sit in it. Stoneware chips on hard floors, so lift rather than drag.
