The Detail

The biggest of the Groovy family, in fired stoneware rather than plastic.

Bring a little rhythm to your greenery. The Groovy is a retro inspired vessel that turns any plant into a statement piece, with playful curves, bold colour and an effortlessly cool silhouette. The XLarge is the floor and sideboard size: enough volume for a mature fern, monstera or rubber plant.

Key Features
  • Fired stoneware in a deep moss green gloss glaze
  • 18cm external height, 17cm internal diameter
  • Sized for a 170mm nursery pot, so you can drop the grower pot straight in
  • Curved retro profile that anchors a corner or a sideboard
  • Supplied without a saucer
Pure Standard
  • Stoneware, not plastic. Potted list the material plainly: stoneware, a dense high fired ceramic. It is inert, it does not off gas, and it will never shed microplastics into your soil or your home. That is the reason we brought the range in.
  • Built to outlive the trend. A stoneware pot is a decade long object, not a season long one. The most sustainable planter is the one you never have to replace, and this is the format that gets you there.
  • Weight is a feature here. At this size a fired ceramic pot gives a top heavy plant a base that will not tip, which is the practical argument for ceramic over plastic once you get past a 170mm grower pot.
  • Worth knowing before you buy. Potted publish the material, the finish and the dimensions, but not the country of manufacture, the glaze composition or the packaging. That is common right across the imported ceramics category rather than particular to this brand, and the Manufacturing Transparency and Packaging scores below reflect it honestly.
  • Where we would like more. A published lead and cadmium free statement on the glaze would take the Materials score to a five.

Care Instructions
  • Wipe with a damp cloth. Skip abrasive cleaners and scourers, which will dull the gloss over time.
  • Use it as a cachepot: leave your plant in its 170mm nursery pot, lift it out to water, let it drain, then drop it back in.
  • Lift from the base rather than the rim once a plant is in it. Filled, this size is heavy.
  • Sit it on felt pads or a mat on timber and stone surfaces.
Good to Know
  • Potted do not state whether this piece is drilled with a drainage hole, and it is supplied without a saucer. We would use it as a decorative outer pot rather than planting directly into it.
  • Glaze colour and surface can vary slightly between pieces. That is normal for fired ceramics, not a fault.

Our Take

The largest of the Groovy shapes: curved, deep moss green, and sized for a 170mm nursery pot, so it takes a mature fern or rubber plant without an awkward in between repot. Fired stoneware gives it the base weight a top heavy plant actually needs, which is the practical argument for ceramic once you are past the small sizes. Retro without tipping over into novelty, in both senses.

Frequently asked

What is the Groovy planter made from?

Stoneware, finished in a moss green gloss glaze. Potted publish the material for every pot in the range. Fired clay is inert, so it does not off-gas or shed microplastics into your potting mix.

What size is it?

18cm external height and 17cm internal diameter. It is sized for a 170mm nursery pot, which suits a mature plant rather than a small one.

Will it tip over with a tall plant in it?

That is the reason to choose stoneware at this size. The pot weighs around 2.3kg empty, which gives a top heavy plant a base that plastic cannot match.

Does it have a drainage hole or a saucer?

It is supplied without a saucer, and Potted do not publish drainage detail for the Groovy range. We would use it as a decorative outer pot: leave the plant in its nursery pot, lift it out to water, let it drain, then drop it back in.

Is it plastic free?

Yes. The pot is fired stoneware with a glazed finish and no plastic components, which is why it carries our Plastic Free tag.

How do I care for it?

Wipe with a damp cloth and skip abrasive cleaners. Lift it from the base rather than the rim once a plant is in it, and sit it on felt pads on timber or stone.
